Inheriting a House Full of Stuff: When One Generation’s Junk is Not Another Generation’s Treasure

As the years move on, many of us face the difficult time of having to assist parents in the selling of their estate so they can move in with family, downsize, or into a senior facility. It will always be a tough time, emotionally. But much has changed with our lives and these changes are directly affecting this transition in life.

Two Generations At Once Want to Get Rid of Their Stuff

A rare time is occurring now. Two generations are adjusting their living situations at the same time. People are living longer and for a first time, parents and their children are downsizingat the same time.

Many people in the current retirement range have not been able to save up for retirement, yet they are ready to stop, or at the very least, work less. Their larger homes make no sense anymore, they want to move into smaller dwellings, easier to maintain and more accommodating to enjoy retirement. This is happening at the same time however, when they are moving their parents into senior communities.

In the past, most of the estates belongings went to the next generation. But what happens when the next generation is doing the same with their own stuff?

Times Have Changed Our Stuff

Not only have times changed, with two generations doing this at the same time, but our stuffhas changed along the way.

In the past, the furniture being passed down was usually of the highest quality. It was strong and made well. Nowadays, furniture is mainly mass produced. There is no value anymore with your mothers dresser. Most furniture is replaced many times throughout our lives because of the wear and tear that happens quite easily with factory furniture. Our children and even their children will not want worn out furniture or old appliances without the latest technology.

Traditions have also changed! That china used for holidays and dinner parties is no longer desired by younger generations. These occasions are happening less and china is often not used because it is too formal. Because our lives are faster and traditions have changed, our future generations are wanting less and less of their parents stuff.

The Convenience of a Dumpster Rental Helps Things Go Smoother

You may believe that a lot of your stuff or your family’s stuff still has considerable value. These items can be donated to an organization like Habitat for Humanity ReStore.

That said…

Because the next generation is unable to take on their parents stuff or doesnt want it, Bin There Dump That can be the quickest solution. We have provided countless dumpsters to folks that need to dispose of their parents or loved ones’ items.

Our lives are busier than ever and with careers, there is less time to spend on the disposal of estate items. Whether you are here or coming in from out of state, the roll-off dumpster can be quickly ordered, delivered, and picked up, making for an easier transition.

Plus, with different sizes, the bins will accommodate the small leftovers all the way to the full home cleanout.
